Healthy Foodie Guide: North Shore of Boston
Simply Nourished is based on the North Shore of Boston, MA. The North Shore is a beautiful place to visit, especially during the summer and fall months. Check out our favorite ‘better for you’ options below.
To Eat:
Eat Well Kitchen - Situated in downtown Marblehead, Eat Well Kitchen is the place to go for healthy breakfast and lunch options. EWK offers coffee/tea, organic juices, smoothies, acai bowls, soups, sandwiches, salads, bakery items, and even prepared meals to go. It’s really hard to pick a favorite item, but some go-to’s are the choc full smoothie, the zucchini muffin, chocolate peanut butter energy bites, the chicken detox soup, and Carla’s Way wrap.
Sweetgreen - Although this is a chain restaurant, this is one of our favorite stops along the North Shore and it deserves props for sticking to its mission of connecting communities to real food. Here’s what we love: everything is seed oil free, beef is grassfed, and produce is locally sourced. And they now offer guilt free fries - what more could you want?! There are locations in Peabody and Lynnfield.
Settler - If you can snag a reservation at Settler in Salem, this is a great spot for a date night away from the kids. It’s a cozy, quaint restaurant with a mediterranean inspired menu that is always changing.
Bernadette is Settler’s sister restaurant that offers more seating and a French farm-to-table inspired menu. Both focus on locally sourced ingredients resulting really delicious, fresh food.
To Shop:
Durum - Located in Lynn, Durum offers homemade organic pastas and more. We love to pick up a pizza kit, which includes 2 doughs, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, for a fun Friday night in. In addition to their pasta, their premade dishes such as chicken parm and meatballs are delish.
Bonny Breads - If you love bread, it’s worth the drive to Beverly for Bonny Breads handmade sourdough. Beyond breads, they also have coffee/tea, pastries, and quiches. Highly recommend the almond croissant! What I love most is Bonny Breads cares about their ingredients and uses organic whole grain flours locally sourced for their breads.
Tendercrop Farms - Tendercrop Farms is a local grocery market with a location in Wenham. They make every effort to offer local produce and meat. They also sell grocery staples, prepared foods, and flowers. The store is adorable with a rustic feel and is a nice break from the traditional supermarket.
Shubie’s - Shubie’s is a staple in Marblehead. They offer made-to-order sandwiches and salads as well as prepared foods, grocery staples, gourmet foods, beer/wine/liquor, gifts and more. They also have an amazing selection of non-alcoholic drinks. You truly can’t go wrong with anything at Shubie’s.
