Relax & Rejuvenate With a Detox Bath

Indulging in a detox bath is the ultimate self-care ritual, especially during the cold winter months. We are constantly exposed to toxins through our water, food, air, and even stress. A detox both helps flush out these toxins through lymphatic drainage and also supports our nervous system.

Benefits of Detox Baths

  • Activates the body’s detoxification system

  • Promotes relaxation and stress relief

  • Improves skin health

  • Relieves muscle pain

  • Boosts sleep quality

  • Encourages better circulation throughout the body

Detox Bath Recipe

1-2 cups of epsom salt or magnesium flakes

2 tbsp bentonite clay

2 tbsp mustard bath

A few drops of your favorite essential oil (lavender and eucalyptus are my favorites)

NOTE: Be sure to hop in the shower for a few minutes after the detox bath to wash away any toxins left on your skin!

There are lots of other detox recipes so I would encourage you to experiment and find your favorite combinations. There are also some great done-for-you options out there. Here are two of my favorite brands:

When To Use

  • Before bedtime: This is my favorite way to unwind after the kids go to bed. I try to sit in a detox bath for ~20 minutes 1-3 nights per week. I love to grab a good book or put on my favorite podcast while I soak.

  • At the first sign of illness: If I feel the symptoms of a cold coming on I will try to sit in a detox bath if I feel up to it. While I wouldn’t recommend if you have a fever, epsom salt can help soothe aches and pain and promotes relaxation that can boost the immune system.

  • When you have sore muscles: Magnesium is known to reduce muscle pain, cramps, and inflammation so a detox bath is also great after a strenuous workout.
